FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU women's basketball team pulled away in the second half to complete an 84-60 win in an exhibition game against Texas A&M-Commerce at Schollmaier Arena on Saturday. The Frogs held the Lions to 23 points in the second half and continued a balanced offensive attack to extend a five-point halftime lead.
Sophomore center Jordan Moore led TCU with 22 points, on 9-of-11 shooting, and eight rebounds. She was a big reason why TCU outscored the Lions, 38-16, in the paint. The Frogs balanced that inside effort with nine 3-pointers, including four from junior AJ Alix who finished with 12 points and three from freshman Amber Ramirez who finished with 11 points.
The Rundown
TCU shot just 5-of-16 in the first quarter as Texas A&M-Commerce built a 20-14 lead after the game's first 10 minutes. The Frogs, however, used a 12-0 run midway through the second quarter to take control for good. TCU trailed, 31-27, with 5:36 to go in the first half when a 3-pointer from Alix after a steal by Ramirez sparked the Horned Frog run.
Senior Jada Butts, who finished with 10 points, then hit her lone 3-pointer and Moore scored six straight points to cap the 12-0 run that gave TCU a 39-31 run. TCU forced five turnovers during the nearly four-minute stretch, and that pressure continued in the second half.
The Frogs dominated the third quarter, holding the Lions to 3-of-15 shooting while making 9-of-13 themselves to extend their lead to 16 points at 63-47. The defensive effort continued in the fourth as TCU held A&M-Commerce to 3-of-10 shooting with 10 turnovers.
Overall in the second half, TCU forced 16 turnovers and held the Lions to 24 percent (6-of-25) shooting while connecting on 57 percent (17-of-30) itself.
