Men's Tennis Ready for NCAA Individuals

FORT WORTH, Texas - The NCAA Division I Men's Singles and Doubles Championships for the TCU men's tennis team will get underway on Wednesday, May 20 at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
Nick Chappell, Will Stein, Cameron Norrie and Trevor Johnson will all take part in their respective brackets. Chappell and Norrie will each begin in the singles bracket on Wednesday, while Chappell and doubles partner Stein along with the tandem of Norrie and Johnson will start in the doubles bracket on Thursday. Guillermo Nuñez remains a first alternate for the men's singles bracket.
Chappell will be the first on the court against No. 28 Ronnie Schneider of North Carolina at 9 a.m., while Norrie is set to face No. 48 Sam Shropshire of Northwestern at 11 a.m. On Thursday, Stein and Chappell will take on the No. 4 seed of Mikelis Libiertis and Hunter Reese of Tennessee and Norrie and Johnson will faceoff with No. 52 Jordan Angus and Filip Vittek of San Diego.
No. 49 Nick Chappell has led the TCU men's tennis team since he stepped on campus four years ago. The Indianapolis, Ind., native has played at the No. 1 slot in singles and doubles for almost the entire duration of his career. Chappell has totaled a 19-9 record this season, with 12 of his wins coming in dual matches and six coming against ranked opponents.
Chappell and partner Stein check in at No. 23 in the rankings and have totaled a team-best 21 wins in doubles action and have played solely at the No. 1 position for the last two seasons. The duo have downed eight ranked opponents and qualified for the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships this past fall after winning the consolation bracket at the ITA All-American Championships.
During the fall season and in his first competition for TCU at the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships, Norrie became the third freshman in 2014 to nab the singles crown at the his respective regional championships and he and Johnson became only the second all-freshmen doubles tandem in the history of the regionals to snag the doubles title as well. Norrie climbed to a career-high singles ranked of No. 18, while he and Johnson were ranked as high as No. 15 this season.
Currently ranked No. 39 in singles, Norrie has 25 wins in his debut season, nine victories over ranked opponents and is currently riding an eight-match winning streak. He and Johnson sit at No. 30 in the rankings and have put together a 21-6 record this season with five victories coming over ranked foes.
