Zahna Medley paced the Horned Frogs (17-13) with 15 points, while Veja Hamilton also scored in double figures with 14 points to go with seven rebounds.
TCU whittled an 18-point second-half deficit all the way down to four on two occasions but couldn't capitalize on opportunities late in the contest.
The Frogs went into the break trailing 38-24 after a cold first half shooting effort where TCU shot 27 percent and connected on just one 3-pointer in 11 attempts.
Texas (21-9) knocked down its first two buckets of the second half to take its largest lead of 18 points at the 19:10 mark.
With TCU trailing 45-29 three minutes later, Jada Butts converted a layup and followed with a 3-pointer to bring the Frogs within 11 at the 13:36 mark.
Following the Longhorn's first points in over three minutes, Caitlin Diaz answered with another 3-pointer and Chelsea Prince knocked down a jumper to trim the deficit to single digits at 47-39.
Butts drained another bucket from long range on the next TCU possession and Hamilton followed with a baseline jumper before Butts capped the 16-4 run with a free-throw to close to a 49-45 game with 9:09 left to play.
The Frogs continued to play stellar defense down the stretch, holding Texas to a 39-percent effort in the second half, but couldn't get their own shots to fall in crucial situations.
Butts tallied nine points while Prince collected seven points, nine rebounds and three steals, tying the single-season school record with her 95th steal of the 2014-15 campaign.
TCU forced 20 Texas turnovers and collected 12 steals from seven different Frogs.
Kelsey Lang led three Longhorns in double figures with 14 points.
TCU will wait nine days before learning its postseason fate on Monday, March 16.
