Horned Frogs Victorious in Double Header

FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 18 TCU men's tennis team notched two team victories to sweep the double header on Saturday with a 5-2 win over No. 46 Dartmouth and 7-0 blanking of No. 63 UT Arlington at the indoor facility inside the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
In front of a large and loud crowd, the Horned Frogs (14-5) opened the day by downing the Big Green (8-5) before defeating the regional foe Mavericks (8-5) in the double-header finale for the team's fourth shutout of the season and fifth straight win.
"What a weekend. We definitely pushed our guys mentally and physically," head coach David Roditi said. "I am very proud of our team for staying focused with 300 distractions out there. It was a great atmosphere out there and I couldn't be more proud to be apart of TCU with the support we got from our fans and the Delta Gammas. To go indoors against an indoor team like Dartmouth, who is a very good team from positions one through six, speaks volumes of this team that we were able to win 5-2. It was just a great performance today.
"This is the best team UTA has had in awhile. They are ranked and were a tough opponent for our third match in two days. Our guys really stepped up and they all really wanted to play. What more can you ask from your team when they all want to compete?"
In the opening match, TCU quickly picked up the doubles point with wins on courts two and three before heading into the singles matches and taking three of the first four matches to get the team victory over Dartmouth.
Nuñez's winning streak was in jeopardy, as the freshman dropping the first set on court three to Ciro Riccardi, before storming back to take the next two sets 6-2, 6-1 to get his 20th victory of the season and 17th straight.
"There are some things that we could have done better," Roditi said. "As a coach, the situation was not ideal. But, we have five seniors who have a ton of leadership and rose to the occasion. There were some great performances from Arnau (Dachs), Will (Stein) and Nick Chappell. For Guillermo (Nuñez) to come back and win his match shows a lot of maturity and keeps his winning streak alive."
In the match against the Mavericks, TCU only dropped one doubles match before sweeping up the other two courts and all six singles matches to secure the team's fifth straight win of the season.
The Frogs will return to Big 12 Conference action, as the team travels to Oklahoma for a showdown on March 27, before making a stop in Stillwater, Okla., to face Oklahoma State on March 29.
"We played a lot of tennis and it gives us the preparation we need for our huge road trip at Oklahoma and Oklahoma State," Roditi said. "That is as tough of a road trip as you could ask for. We are playing two of the best teams in the nation and we will have our hands full."
