FORT WORTH – Another dominating performance on the range garnered the TCU rifle team its second straight victory with a first place finish at the Ole Miss Invitational on Sunday.
TCU once again posted a comfortable victory over an ultra-talented field of teams. The second place finisher was Murray State with a team score of 4,676. Also shooting were Memphis, Jacksonville State, Ole Miss, North Georgia and UT Martin.
"An impressive record-setting weekend for the team. I'm incredibly proud of how they performed as a team this weekend," raved head coach Karen Monez. "Mindy Miles was at the top of her game. Her back-to-back air rifle scores of 598 and 596 were world-class."
For the second straight day, the Horned Frogs fired a team aggregate score of 4,696. Additionally, the Frogs took home the top spot individually in both disciplines with Mindy Miles finishing first in air rifle after shooting a 596, while Hannah Black turned in the top score in smallbore with a personal-best 592. Black tops her previous high of 585 to post the sixth-best smallbore mark in program history.
"Hannah Black continues to refuse to accept anything but the best from herself with two strong air rifle scores and a nice first place finish with her 592 smallbore score at Ole Miss," said Monez.
Miles' score set the stage for an air rifle team score of 2,370 when she fired a 596. The team score ties the fourth-best air rifle mark in program history. The Frogs had four of the top-10 finishers. Behind Miles in third place was Sally Li, who shot a 594. Black was right behind her in fourth with a 593. Kelly Bogart rounded out TCU's top shooters with a personal-best 590 to finish in ninth.
