TCU's Season Ends In Tough Loss

"I'm really proud of our group. We gave ourselves a chance to be successful with our work rate," said head coach Eric Bell. "We made it hard for them. They were shooting from 30-or-40 yards out. It wasn't as lopsided as it looked statistically."
TCU weathered a furious attack from West Virginia in the first six minutes of the match. Arnold was called on to make three acrobatic saves to keep the match scoreless.
"I told the team that Vittoria had a heck of a career," said Bell. "She was as steady as can be this season and very consistent. At the end, that's all we could ask for. She came up with some big saves as usual. I'm sorry to see her go."
Then Horned Frog defensive line held their ground through the middle portion of the half. WVU fired off a multitude of shots, but all from distance, making the saves easy for Arnold as she finished the half with six.
TCU turned the tides in the final 15 minutes as it put pressure on the Mountaineer defenders. The Frogs best opportunity came after a foul on West Virginia in the 40th minute. Patry Carrion's feed into the penalty box was headed out by t WVU defender, but right at Brooke Ingram. Her turn-around shot caught the Mountaineer goalkeeper off guard, but she was able to just get a piece of it, preventing the first goal of the match.
West Virginia used the momentum from the save and eventually found the back of the net as it pushed the attack upfield. Ashley Lawrence carried the ball down the field and worked her away around her defender to cross the ball to a waiting Leah Emaus, who's shot to the far post was on target for a 1-0 lead in the 44th minute.
The two teams went back-and-forth to open up the second half as TCU tried to get the equalizer and West Virginia was pushing for the insurance goal. It was the Mountaineers that finally got what they were looking for as they cashed in for their second goal in the 68th minute.
Lawrence again was the table-setter as she fed her pass through a throng of feet. Michaela Abam stayed onside, then broke free as she took the pass and sent a cross-angle shot to the far post for a 2-0 lead.
TCU fought back as it tried to get back in the match. A tough battle in the penalty area resulted in the Frogs' earning a penalty kick in the 72nd minute. Bobbi Clemmer was called on to take the shot. She beat a diving Hannah Steadman to cut the deficit in half, 2-1.
The Frogs continued to battle, but couldn't solve the backline of West Virginia and the Mountaineers held on for the 2-1 win.
"We've grown tons from August to November," said Bell. "We've got a really young group, but we are talented and we're going to get better throughout the spring. We've got help coming along the way as far as recruits are concerned. I'm really excited about 2015 and Frog soccer fans should be too."
TCU's season comes to an end with a final record of 8-8-3.
