TCU vs. SMU Postgame Notes

Head coach Raegan Pebley
On Zahna Medley's 1,000 career points
"There's a difference between shooters and makers. The nice thing about her is that she is a great shooter that can make a lot of shots and stretch the defense out. We know that she's really working hard to develop other parts of her game, and that's going to be what helps her go from a good to a great player at an elite level. I'm just really grateful that I get to coach her."
On the team's ability to force 25 turnovers in the win
"We definitely want to see where we are taking care of the ball and getting good possessions. We also don't like that SMU shot such a high percentage in the first half. We did better in the second half and forced them to take more contested shots. There's probably only about a third of our system actually in right now, especially offensively, so there will be a lot of growing and baby steps for our team."
On the Horned Frogs' free-throw shooting, especially in the final minutes
"It's a goal everyday in practice to always be shooting about 80 percent. We want to create high-percentage shots for ourselves. I think open three's are that for us and in the paint at the basket. Free-throws are the highest-percentage shot we can get. It's nice to see that we can convert there."
Junior guard Zahna Medley
On being the fastest in TCU history to reach 1,000 points
"It feels amazing. My teammates are just giving me the ball when I'm open, and I'm just taking what they are giving me."
On how aware she was of the milestone heading into the game
"My mom texted it to me and one of my teammates did yesterday as well. I didn't really want to know, and just focus on the game. But they told me. Once the game started I completely forgot about it until I heard [the PA announcement]. It felt good coming off my fingers, so I knew it was going in."
On if she thought about it during the first timeout after her score
"Honestly, I was so focused on winning the game because it was close. I celebrated a little in my mind after the game."
On her and the team's free-throw success
"It's definitely something we needed to improve on and tried to improve on. We want to make 80 percent and we knew we had to make free-throws to keep that extended lead at the end of the game."
Senior forward Chelsea Prince
On her double-double performance
"It's good to know my team had my back. It's like I know they will be there for me and they'll stop the ball. Turnovers to points is what won the game. It's exciting to play an up-tempo defense, and it's something that I love to do very much. Up-tempo gets me going and that's going to get my team going too. They are hoping we can play fast, and it's showing that we can."
On the team's first half
"I think we were just playing too fast. I don't think we played any different, and they were going fast so we had to kind of slow ourselves down. On defense we should have trusted ourselves better, but once we talked about it we got back going again."
