Overall, Saturday's outing, which allowed the Horned Frogs to take over sole possession of second-place in the conference standings and sweep the season-series, featured 11 ties and 12 lead changes. The Frogs, who forced the Cowgirls into 17 turnovers, held a 16-5 advantage in points off turnovers. The Purple and White also controlled the game inside the paint, out-scoring Wyoming, 28-16, while also controlling the glass for a 36-31 advantage in rebounding.
With the win, TCU, who has now won three-straight, moved to 17-8 overall and 9-2 in league play, while Wyoming dropped to 18-6 and 8-3 in the MWC.
Sophomore Starr Crawford followed up her career-day against UNLV with another solid outing Saturday. Crawford recorded 16 points on 8-of-14 shooting, while just missing her seventh double-double of the season with nine boards. Emily Carter also chipped in with 16 points, including 13 in the second half. The senior simply took over the game down the stretch, scoring 10 of the Horned Frogs' final 16 points, including a stretch in which she scored six-straight.
Other notables Saturday included Helena Sverrisdottir and Briesha Wynn, who both scored 11 points, respectively. The day for Sverrisdottir was particular special, as the senior became TCU's all-time leader in career starts with now 119 for her spectacular career. She passed former Frog great Sandora Irvin for the top-spot, who posted 118 starts between 2001-05.
Crawford's bucket at the 15:08 mark of the second half helped the Frogs take a 37-35 lead, but the Cowgirls rallied to regain the lead before Carter dropped her only trey of the game to tie the contest at about the 13-minute mark of the period.
An 11-5 run in the next couple of minutes moved the score to 51-45 for the Purple and White. During that time-frame, freshman Briesha Wynn scored five of the eight points for the Frogs, while Sverrisdottir connected on a triple of her own to push the Horned Frog lead to 47-43 with a little over 9 minutes remaining in the contest.
With the Frogs up 53-48, Carter went to work, scoring the next six points, including a driving lay-up to push TCU's lead to 59-52.
A couple of late free throws secured the Horned Frogs' third-straight victory and brought the final score to 65-54.
Antoinette Thompson got the Frogs going early, scoring an easy bucket underneath the hole. The two teams traded baskets the next couple of trips until Crawford scored on a running lay-up.
Carter's three-point play at about the 14-minute mark of the first half gave TCU a 9-7 lead early in the period. Wyoming cut the Frog lead at the 11:22 mark of the first half, drilling a triple to make the score 15-13.
A deep three by Delisa Gross from Sverrisdottir made the score 20-18 at the 8:26 mark of the period. The two teams continued to trade buckets until Gross stole the rock and found Carter on the break. The senior then proceeded to find an open Crawford who knotted the game at 27-27 with a little over a minute to play in the period.
Following a steal by Carter, Sverrisdottir found Wynn for a fast-break bucket to bring the halftime score to 29-27 in favor of TCU.
The Frogs will next be in action at Colorado State on Feb. 16. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. CT from Colorado Springs, Colo.
