Frog Doubles Team Reaches Qualifying Final

TULSA, Okla.—Seniors Emanuel Brighiu and Christopher Price advanced to the final round of the men's doubles qualifying draw at the D'Novo ITA All-American Championships Tuesday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Brighiu and Price, the No. 1 overall seed in the bracket and the nation's 23rd-rated doubles duo, posted a pair of victories to move within one win of earning an automatic bid to the tournament's main draw, which will be contested later this week. The pairing opened competition with an 8-2 first-round victory over the Tennessee team of Matteo Fago and Tennys Sandgren. Following the win, Brighiu and Price coasted to the final round with an easy 8-2 decision over Georgia's Sadio Doumbia-Wil Spencer in Round 2.
The Frog tandem returns to the courts Wednesday, when it faces Georgia Tech's Kevin King and Juan Spir for a berth in the 32-team main draw. King and Spir, one of the eight groups seeded Nos. 9-16 in the qualifying bracket, own the nation's No. 43 national ranking. First serve time for the match has been set for 2:30 p.m.
"I'm really excited about tomorrow, having a chance to reach the main draw," Price said following Tuesday's competition. "We are playing well together so far this fall. Both of us are getting better at reading and understanding what the other is going to do on the court, and we've been doing well at picking each other up. It's a lot of fun playing with (Brighiu)."
Senior Cameron Nash and junior Paul Chappell also competed in qualifying doubles Tuesday, but South Alabama's Romain Bocaert and Lucas Viel eliminated the two Frogs in the opening round in a very tight match, 9-8 (5). Bocaert and Viel later won their second-round match and will play Wednesday for a shot to advance to the main draw.
In other action, Brighiu was knocked out of singles qualifying following a 6-2, 6-0 setback to Pepperdine's Finn Tearney in Round 2. The loss concluded TCU's singles competition at the D'Novo ITA All-American Championships.
