FORT WORTH—The TCU doubles team of junior Adrian Simon and sophomore Emanuel Brighiu earned an automatic selection for the NCAA Division I Men's Doubles Championships Wednesday. The Frog pairing, one of 32 selected to make up the national field, earned its first NCAA Championships appearance.
Brighiu and Simon, ranked 31st, by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), earned an automatic bid as the Mountain West Conference's top-rated ranked doubles tem in the latest national rankings. The NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships will be held May 20-25 at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas.
Brighiu and Simon hold one of five national rankings for TCU, although they are the only Frogs selected to compete at the national championships. Senior Kriegler Brink and freshman Slah Mbarek are ranked in doubles at No. 39 in addition to holding respective singles ratings of No. 78 and No. 83. Brighiu is listed 114th in singles.
The individual selections were announced one day after TCU learned that it will compete in the NCAA team championships.
