Frogs Finish Play at ITA All-American

TULSA, Okla.—TCU's scheduled competition at the D'Novo ITA All-American Men's Tennis Championships came to an end Tuesday during the doubles qualifying draw at Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Two Horned Frog doubles teams competed among the 64-squad qualifying bracket, as the tandems of Emanuel Brighiu/Christopher Price and Slah Mbarek/Zach Nichols both won opening-round matches prior to being eliminated in the second round.
Brighiu and Price, seeded fifth overall in the draw, earned an 8-6 victory over the Old Dominion pairing of Benjamin Chomette-Tobias Fanselow to open action Tuesday. The Frog duo dropped an 8-5 decision in the ensuing round to Texas A&M's Jeff Dadamo and Marcus Lunt.
Mbarek and Nichols joined Brighiu and Price in the Round of 32 after beginning their day with an 8-5 win over Washington's Derek Drabble and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan. Virginia's Milo Johnson and Santiago Villegas eliminated the TCU tandem in its next match, 8-6.
"I was happy with the way our doubles played today," head coach Dave Borelli said. "We lost to teams from a couple very good programs there in the second round, and we were right in those matches. "
The conclusion of doubles play for TCU also marked the end of competition for the squad at the tournament. Despite the finish to the week, Borelli said he believes his squad is on the right track to success early in the season.
"Our guys just need to play more matches," Borelli said. "We're working hard. This group has a good attitude, probably one of the best groups we've had since I've been here. We're just not match-ready yet, but as we play more matches in the fall, that will work itself out."
The Frogs return to action next week, when they travel to Austin, Texas, for a USTA Pro Circuit event to be held Oct. 12 - 18.
