WACO, Texas--Sophomore Zach Nichols of the TCU men's tennis team advanced to the consolation final of the men's "A" singles draw Sunday during the final day of the Baylor HEB Invitational at the Baylor Tennis Center.
The Austin, Texas, native won his fourth consecutive match Sunday morning in the semifinal round over Anton Bobytskyi (Oklahoma State), 7-5, 6-3, to advance. Later in the day, he faced Texas Tech's Michael Breler in the final, which Breler survived by a close 7-6(4), 6-4 decision.
Nichols dropped to the consolation round with an opening-round loss Friday to Tulsa's Viktor Kolic, the 59th-ranked player in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) preseason rankings. He rebounded with four straight-set victories to reach Sunday's final.
