The TCU men's golf program concluded its fall campaign with its second consecutive tournament victory as the Horned Frogs claimed the Columbia Invitational title on Sunday (Oct. 26) at the Galloway National Golf Club in Atlantic City, N.J.
The Frogs - who entered the contest ranked 19th in the nation - held a six-stroke advantage over 21st-ranked University of Florida coming into the final round of action. The Purple and White posted a score of 291 over the final 18 holes of action en route to collecting a team score of 894 (307-296-291) and outlasting the Gators by nine strokes for the title. Florida (903), Eastern Kentucky (925), St. John's (925) and Louisiana-Monroe (928) rounded out the top five.
"This was a total team effort," said TCU head men's golf coach Bill Montigel. "This was obviously a great way to end the fall season, but what most impressed me was the guys really battled on a difficult golf course under some really tough conditions."
While the Purple and White recorded their second consecutive team title - the Frogs also had the individual champion for the second straight tournament as Tom Hoge (Fargo, N.D. | Fargo South H.S.) claimed his first collegiate victory. The TCU sophomore overcame a rough first round where he posted an 80 to record two straight rounds under par en route to collecting a three-round tally of 221 (80-71-70) - including a 70 in the final round of action.
"Tom really had an outstanding tournament. Even after he struggled in that first round - he stayed with his game and played some really great golf. He really stuck in there, and I couldn't be more excited for him," added Montigel.
Scott Roudebush (Austin, Texas | Austin H.S.) posted a career-best finish as the Austin, Texas, talent finished fourth overall with a score of 225 (76-74-75) while posting his second top-10 finish of the fall campaign.
Following his first collegiate victory at The Prestige at PGA West - Johan de Beer (Pretoria, South Africa | Pretoria Boys H.S.) notched a sixth-place showing with a 54-hole score of 226 (75-74-77). De Beer posted his second consecutive top-10 showing to conclude the fall campaign for the Frogs.
Travis Woolf (Fort Worth, Texas | Paschal H.S.) notched his second top-10 of the fall season and fourth top-20 showing as the Fort Worth product also tied for sixth overall with a tournament tally of 226 (78-77-71) - including a 71 over the final 18 holes.
James Sacheck (The Woodlands, Texas | Zionsville H.S.) finished tied for 26th overall following an 18-hole score of 234 (78-81-75) in his final fall tournament of the season.
"Every one of these guys played well today and really showed a lot of poise and focus on the course today. These guys don't get rattled if they have a bad hole and are able to come back, focus and play consistent. This is a team that I really like and am excited about their potential heading into the spring," said Montigel.
The Frogs will head into the off-season flying high on momentum as the Purple and White recorded top-four finishes in all four tournaments - including two tournament victories and a runner-up showing at the Kansas Invitational.
