ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Nina Munch-Soegaard, a sophomore on the TCU women's tennis team, advanced to the quarterfinals of the main draw at the Coleman Vision Tennis Championships after an opening round victory on Monday.
Munch-Soegaard teamed up with former Texas standout Kaysie Smashey to defeat Maret Ani (EST) and Rosana De Los Rios (PAR) 6-2, 6-3. The duo will face Liga Dekmeijere (LAT) and Varvara Lepchenko (USA) in the quarterfinal round on Thursday.
Munch-Soegaard, currently ranked No. 705 in doubles play, claimed two doubles titles this summer on the pro circuit with former Horned Frog Helena Besovic.
The Amarillo, Texas, native fell in the second round of the singles qualifying draw to Alexandra Podkolzina, 6-1, 6-0. Munch-Soegaard knocked off reigning NCAA singles champion Audra Cohen in straight sets in the opening round.
