TCU women nip Aggies in offensive shootout, 106-84

FORT WORTH, Texas - Starting a defining stretch in the schedule, the TCU women's basketball team displayed its offensive power on Saturday, thumping North Carolina A&T 106-84 for its third consecutive win.
The Lady Frogs (9-4) scored the sixth-most points in school history and the most since a 117-point effort in the 2001 season. On the flip side, TCU's defense allowed the Aggies (6-6) to score a season-high 84 points.
"Our defensive effort was so poor that it's tough to applaud our offensive effort," TCU head coach Jeff Mittie said. "We have to learn that it's not okay to swap baskets at both ends of the court. I was glad that everyone was able to get in playing time. We have a lot of work to do before conference play gets started."
The Purple and White will have one final tune-up on Sunday at 2 p.m. against UMKC before Mountain West Conference action gets underway on Jan. 3 versus UNLV.
Four TCU players recorded double-figures in the game and one was on the verge. Adrianne Ross and Ashley Davis stole the offensive show, scoring 23 and 22 points, respectively. Davis nailed a perfect 5-of-5 shots from beyond the arc. Davis and Ross have scored 20-or-more points in a league-best five games this season.
The Lady Frogs shot a season-best 49.4 percent from the floor and received 14 points from senior Hanna Biernacka. Biernacka, playing in her first home game, registered seven rebounds and a team-best six assists. Rookie Danielle Nunn added 11, junior Lorie Butler-Rayford tallied eight points, eight rebounds and three assists, and junior guard Helen Roden scored nine points, respectively.
TCU outscored the Aggies 52-18 in the paint and forced 19 turnovers.
Early through the first period, the contest remained close and A&T took its largest lead of the game (14-10) with 11:26 remaining. A lay-up by Ross at the 8:35 put the Lady Frogs up permanently but the Aggies remained at length. However, the momentum took a quick shift when Davis made a 3-pointer at the 5:58 mark that jumpstarted a 14-0 TCU run. The Purple and White led 51-33 at the break.
The Lady Frogs controlled the tempo the rest of the game and scored an impressive 55 points in the second half. The team's largest lead came with 16:55 remaining in the contest when TCU took a healthy 28-point advantage (64-36) after a lay-up by Ross.

The last time NC A&T head coach Patricia Cage-Bibbs played at TCU was when she was the head coach at Grambling State University. . . In fact, current TCU assistant coach Yolanda Wells-Broughton was a part of that team that ended the season 21-7 overall and 13-1 in the SWAC. Grambling State defeated the Lady Frogs 98-82 . . . TCU won its 12th-straight home game today . . . Former TCU All-American Sandora Irvin attended the game.
