ABOUT THE GAME
Saturday's contest against Wyoming marks TCU's debut in Mountain West Conference play. The Horned Frogs meet the Cowboys for the first time since 1999 when the two teams were both part of the first Western Athletic Conference.
The Horned Frogs hold a 3-2 edge in their series against the Pokes. The last time both met on the hardwood came on Feb. 11, 1999, where the Frogs took a 102-85 win in Fort Worth.
It will be the third time the Frogs and the Cowboys meet on the court in Fort Worth. TCU posted victories in the previous two meetings (Dec. 9, 1971 and Feb. 11, 1999) at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
TCU will be Wyoming's second conference opponent. The Pokes opened league action on Jan. 4 against UNLV, falling to the Runnin' Rebels 88-77 at home.
TCU trails 21-23 against its new opponents in the Mountain West Conference.
TCU fans will recognize a familiar face when Wyoming rides into the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. Head coach Steve McClain, in his eighth season at the helm of the Cowboy program, was an original member of Billy Tubbs' staff at TCU from 1994-95 to 1997-98.
McClain will be serving as a special guest speaker in the third of 10 installments in this year's annual Visiting Coaches' Luncheon Series, hosted by TCU head coach Neil Dougherty and the Fast Break Club on game day.
A common factor between Dougherty and McClain is that the two were assistant coaches at their respective schools before taking their current head coaching positions.
Dougherty was an assistant at Kansas (1995-2002) before making the move to TCU, while McClain was a Horned Frog assistant (1995-98) prior to becoming the 19th head coach at Wyoming. Neither have ever met on the hardwood during their time as assistant coaches.
In the latest NCAA statistical standings (Jan. 3), Wyoming's Justin Williams is ranked second in the nation and tops on the team in blocked shots this season with 10.4 swats per game.
In addition, Williams is second on the team in scoring with 11.1 per outing.
LAST TIME OUT: Saint Mary's (Calif.) 65, at TCU 57
Four times this year the Horned Frogs have held their opponent to under 30 points in the opening stanza.
After finishing with eight points in the hard-fought loss at SMU on Dec. 30, Nile Murry tallied 14 of the team's 28 points in the first half against Saint Mary's College of California. The senior guard would finish with 19 points.
When leading at the half, the Frogs are now 4-1 on the year.
Senior Judson Stubbs notched his third career double-double, collecting 10 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
Blake Adams came within one point of a double-digit scoring performance as he tallied nine points on the night.
Senior Chudi Chinweze recorded a season-high eight points.
