Moran Lavi talks TCU women's soccer.
TCU Moderator: Soccer fans welcome to this week's chat with starting midfielder Moran Lavi. We will begin taking your questions momentarily.
Trisha (Bedford): How much has the offseason workout program benefitted the team as whole this season?
Moran Lavi: We've been working hard since the middle of the summer trying to get to know each other and at the same time work hard to get into shape. It was hard work, but now we are seeing the fruits of our labors. Hopefully when the conference season starts we will be able to compete at a the highest level that we know we can.
Jenn (Minnesota): I love your warm up music. What made you choose those songs?
Moran Lavi: Each player chose a favorite song of theirs to put on the CD. We all had to agree on the songs that went on there. We were looking for songs to pump us up and get us ready to play. My pick was a funny song (N*Sync) and the other was Jump by the Pointer Sisters. I was just trying to be funny and have a good time.
Chester (Fort Worth): K.D. Waters and Caroline Starns are perhaps the best two players on your team, the future is bright with these two stars. Do you think they have the potential to make TCU into a soccer power in the next three years?
| Moran Lavi: Both players are freshmen and they are starters. They will gain the experience this year and the confidence to lead the team in the coming years. Off the field they have great personalities and people enjoy being around them. They will be great ambassadors for the program and will aid in the recruiting.
Yes, I think that they will help TCU become a soccer power in the coming years. We have seen what they can do this year and it can only get better with experience. |
Laurie (McKinney): What is it like to represent your country on the field?
Moran Lavi: I always feel proud to be invited to play with the national team. Most of them are players that I have been playing with for five years. it's a lot of fun to be together and represent our country on the playing field. It's also good to have a little vacation time at home. I feel extremely honored.
Jerry (Arlington): How excited are you to be in a new conference where you'll get to travel to places like San Diego and Las Vegas?
Moran Lavi: We don't get to travel to San Diego unfortunately, but as it is my last year, I am really excited about playing new teams and seeing new places.
Jessica (Denton): Which player makes you laugh the most on the team?
Moran Lavi: Katy Buchanan is pretty funny. We have our own jokes that have kept on being repeated over the last two seasons. Caroline Starns is really funny as well. I make myself laugh the most because I do a lot of dumb stuff that makes me laugh. It's weird, but true.
JIm (Tolar): What are the team goals this season and how is the new conference different from Conference USA?
| Moran Lavi: Our team goals are to compete in every game and go out with the confidence that we can win every game. We realize that we don't have one player that will score all of our goals and that makes us more creative on the field and each player knows that they all have a lot of responsibilities whether they are freshmen or seniors.
We are excited about the new conference because it gives us a chance to play new teams that don't know anything about us. We know about them because our coach was in that league for five years. I think it is a great advantage for our team. |
Joey (Katy): Does your team have any favorite traditions or things to do when traveling on the road?
Moran Lavi: We have a little tradition for seniors to do something for the entire team. We call it a little performance. This year, Bara and myself will do this performance at the end of the year. Of course we all play practical jokes on the newcomers, but we can't give those away. It's tasteful, but fun.
Chavante (Fort Worth): How does your home stadium compare to other places your team plays?
Moran Lavi: I like that it is small and that makes it more intimate. When the crowd is there, we can feel it and hear and that inspires us to play better, especially for the young girls that come to our matches.
Johan - Dallas: What's it like to play for new head coach Dan Abdalla?
Moran Lavi: As a senior, I had played here for three years with the same coaching staff, so there was a lot of adjustment on my part. I think that I was scared of the transition, but it has gone better than I thought it would. I think he brings an intencity that we'd lacked in the past and that will only benefit our team this year and in the future.
kristina: What are some of your hobbies or interests away from school and soccer?
Moran Lavi: The entire team knows that after practice is over I go and watch TV. I enjoy reading and hanging out at my house with my roommates, who are my best friends. I really enjoy watching movies.
Anna Grace (Fort Worth): Is there anyone you tried to pattern your game after or copy their style of play?
Moran Lavi: I usually watch a lot of European men's soccer. It is watching soccer at the highest level. I don't pattern my game after anyone specific, I just try to learn as much as I can from each player, especially those that play in the midfield.
Cyndi (Keller): What would you tell someone who's considering attending TCU?
Moran Lavi: As a school, it's a great place to be a part of. Every morning, I am overwhelmed by my surroundings. Coming from Israel, I feel really lucky to be a part of this university. Being an athlete at TCU demands a lot. It's a lot of hard work and we always have to represent the school on the playing field and in the classroom. But it is an experience unlike any other.
Jaime (Salt Lake City): How do you combat the Texas heat during preseason conditioning? Does it make your team stronger once it starts the season?
Moran Lavi: I think that a lot of teams that come here have problems with this heat. We've been working for the past two months and are used to the heat. We drink lots of water and help each other get through the hot days.
TCU Moderator: Thanks everyone for your questions. See you next week when we visit with another member of the TCU soccer team.
