Hey everyone! My name is Moneka Knight. I am a sophomore here at TCU. We had our first game yesterday against Missouri Western, and they put up a good fight but we came out with a victory. I'm really excited for the season to get going and to start traveling. Traveling is one of the best parts about playing basketball besides getting a free education and meeting your teammates. You get to travel all across the country. I love it!I was born on an Air Force base in Utah on Jan. 29,1986. My father was in the Air Force for 20 years, so that makes me a military brat. Being a military child you get moved around a lot so consequently the first four years of my life were spent in Germany. From what I remember I loved it. From Germany, we moved to Las Vegas, which is where my parents currently reside. My father is now a postal carrier and my mother works on the Air Force base (not really sure of her title).
I have an older brother (nine years and 11 months older), Maurice, who recently got married to a great young woman. Her name is Sharon and I'm happy to have her as an addition to our family.
My parents and brother are originally from the East Coast. My father is from Virginia and my mother and brother are from Georgia. I miss my family out there. I don't get to see them much, but I hope they read this and know that I love them very much.
I started playing basketball the summer before sixth grade for a local team called the Heat. It was an all-boys teams. Playing with them was a great experience. I had great coaches and it helped my game a lot. I think playing with the boys is the main reason why I love playing defense to this day. It was a challenge guarding them and it was well worth it.
For high school, I attended Bishop Gorman, a private Catholic school in central Las Vegas. I loved playing ball in high school with all the traveling and tournaments. I met some really great people throughout those four years who helped me get through some hard times and helped me form lasting memories. For that I am very thankful.
My freshman year in college was mixed with great times and rocky times, which was to be expected. I didn't get to see my family much last year, but that will change with TCU moving to the Mountain West Conference. This gives me a chance to play in Vegas. My parents will be able to come to a lot more of my games with more contests being played on the West Coast. I love my family and miss them very much. I can't wait to see them.
I'm very excited for this season and I hope you all feel the same.
