Jill Sutton starred for the TCU Lady Frogs from 1997-2001. She and twin sister Amy had an immediate impact on the program and left a lasting impression on the school. Jill accumulated numerous honors, including WAC Pacific Division Freshman of the Year and she was named to the all-conference team in three of her four seasons. She was also an academic all-conference honoree in each of her four years.
Jill played a major role in helping TCU reach its first NCAA Tournament in 2001, which included a first-round upset of Penn State. She ended her career scoring 1,300 points, the second highest total in school history. She ranks among the top 10 in 12 of TCU's 19 career statistical categories. She graduated from TCU in 2002 with a degree in advertising and public relations.
Jill, whose last name is now Dodd, was kind enough to sit down with the TCU media relations staff to provide an update on what she has been doing since graduation and she also answered some other questions.
Describe what you have been doing since you graduated from TCU.
"In 2002, I started out working as the head basketball coach at Colleyville Christian Academy while I was finishing my student teaching. Our team went 17-8 and reached the TAPPS State Final Four for the first time in school history. Recently, I have been an assistant varsity coach and jv coach at Euless Trinity High School for the past 2 1/2 years. Our varsity team has done exceptionally well, qualifying for the playoffs every year and making it to within one game of the State Tournament in 2002-03."
When did you get married and what is your husband's name and what
are the names of any children you have?
"Chris Dodd and I were married on July 20, 2002. We don't have any children yet, but we do have a black lab puppy named Raven."
What does your spouse do for a living?
"Chris coaches football and track at Colleyville Heritage High School."
Where are you living now?
"I live in Euless, Texas."
What is your favorite basketball memory while playing for TCU?
"I would have to say my favorite basketball memory at TCU was when we beat Penn State in the school's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. That whole season was incredible!"
What is your favorite non-basketball moment while attending TCU?
"My favorite non-basketball moment was when I got to hangout with my teammates. We always had a great time when we were together and I think that was one area that helped our team be successful."
What is the most important life lesson you learned at TCU?
"Hard work does pay off! The first three years were very tough and it was hard to deal with the losses, but it paid off my senior year. All those hours of sweat were well worth it because of the success my senior season."
Why did you decide to attend TCU?
"Amy and I knew TCU would be a great fit for us because it was close to our hometown and we really loved the city of Fort Worth. We both felt like TCU really wanted both of us, not just one, and felt really welcome on our recruiting trip."
What advice would you offer to this year's Lady Frog freshmen class?
"Watch out for Coach Tidwell! No, just kidding. Probably, keep your head up and focus on the big picture. Your hard work during preseason and during the season will payoff in the end."
What advice would you offer to this year's Lady Frog senior class as they prepare to enter the real world?
"Keep in touch with your teammates and friends from TCU. When you start to miss the campus and college life it really helps to still be in contact with everyone you knew and loved from school."
