DADE CITY, Fla. - The TCU women's golf team is all square with tournament host South Florida through 36 holes at the 2003 Conference USA Women's Golf Championships being played at the Lake Jovita Golf Course. TCU fired an 18-over-par 306 on day two, giving the Horned Frogs a two-round total of 610 (+34). East Carolina (616) and Tulane (621) are also in the hunt for the team title, which was won by TCU last year.
"This course is in great shape and is a terrific championship course," head coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin said. "It challenges you mentally and physically on every hole and every shot, so the team and the players who win will definitely be deserving."
D'Rae Ward, with two individual tournament titles to her credit this spring, is tied for first-place overall with a two-round score of 150 (+6). The sophomore picked up her second straight 75 to move into a four-way tie for the lead. For the second consecutive day, none of the 45 participants broke par on a warm, blustery day in Florida.
Junior Brooke Tull, the 2002 C-USA medalist, entered Tuesday's competition with a two-stroke lead, but posted an 80 (+8) in the second round to fall into a three-way tie for fifth place. Tull owns a 36-hole score of 152, which has her two behind the leaders. She is in search of her second tourney title of the year.
Also among the field's top 10 is TCU senior Shannon Barr, who posted a five-over 77 on day two. Her 36-hole sum of 153 (+9) has her in a three-way tie for eighth place. TCU freshman Stephanie Godare also ranks among the field's top 20. Godare was one of three Horned Frogs to shoot a 77 in the second round, and her two-day total of 158 (+14) has her in a share of 19th.
Traci Robison's 77 on day two was a 10-stroke improvement from the first afternoon, and she moved from a tie for 40th into a share of 33rd. She sports a 164 (+20) on her 36-hole card.
Wednesday's third and final round is set to begin at 8:00 a.m. (ET). The Horned Frogs are set to tee off with South Florida and East Carolina at 9:15 a.m. (ET). An awards presentation for the team, individual medalist and the all-conference performers will take place following the completion of Wednesday's final round.
