DADE CITY, Fla. - TCU golfers Brooke Tull and D'Rae Ward shot 72 and 75 respectively in the first round of the Conference USA Women's Golf Championships at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Dade City, Fla. to stake TCU out to the first-round lead. The Horned Frogs posted a 304 (+16) in round one, which puts the team three shots ahead of second-place South Florida, who is hosting the nine-team event.
Tull, who claimed individual medalist honors at the 2002 Conference USA Championships, leads Ofelia Lopez from Southern Miss (74) by two strokes. Tull fired even-par scores of 36 on the front and back nines, making the junior the lone golfer to shoot par on the 6,105-yard course.
Ward, a winner of two tournaments this season, is tied for third-place overall with a score of 75 (+3). The sophomore drained a 25-foot putt on the 18th to save her three-over-par score.
