FORT WORTH, Texas - Joe Gumm, who works for TCU's flagship station ESPN Radio 103.3 FM, has been hired as the public address announcer for TCU men's basketball, the TCU Athletics Department announced today. Gumm was one of more than a dozen candidates who auditioned for the job.
After several years at the USA Radio Network as a sports anchor and news producer, Gumm joined the staff at ESPN 103.3 FM in December of 2001. In addition to covering major sporting events in the area, he provides DFW SportsCenter updates every weekday during "Mike and Mike in the Morning," which runs from 5-9 a.m. (CT).
Gumm has also done play-by-play broadcasts for high school sports and UT-Arlington athletics and has been a studio host for the TCU/ESPN Regional Sports Network during football and basketball seasons.
"We had some strong candidates apply for the job," TCU Marketing Director Tim George said. "But we really thought that Joe possessed all the qualities that we were looking for in an announcer. We are looking forward to seeing him bring more excitement to Daniel-Meyer Coliseum."
Gumm is a graduate of UT-Arlington with a degree in Broadcast Communication. He and his wife, Alexa, have one daughter, Alora. They reside in Arlington.
