Two Texas Preps Sign With TCU Women's Golf

FORT WORTH, Texas - A pair of standout Texas high school golfers, Angela Akins of Marble Falls, and Carrie Morris of Tyler, have committed to play for the TCU Horned Frogs, Head Women's Golf Coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin announced today. Both will be true freshmen for the 2004-05 season.
"We are thrilled that Angela and Carrie have chosen to attend TCU," Ravaioli-Larkin said. "Both possess winning attitudes and have expressed the desire to build upon what we have accomplished here over the years. They really have 'take it to the next level' mentalities and can be impact players as freshmen."
Akins, a product of Marble Falls High School, has seven prep tournament titles to her credit. She has been a first-team all-district selection, district MVP and district champion each of the last three years. This past season, Akins was a first-team all-region honoree after placing third at the regional tournament. As a junior, she finished 17th at the state tournament after a pair of 79s. The daughter of Pam and Marty Akins is also a standout basketball player for the Fighting Mustangs.
Morris is a top performer for Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler. She enjoyed an impressive summer, with the highlight coming when she placed third at the TransAmerica Junior Golf Championship after a 77-71=146. Also in June, Morris took fifth at the American Junior Golf Association's Harvey Penick Junior Classic after an impressive final-round 70. As a high school golfer for the Red Raiders, she was the district champion in both 2002 and 2003. She is the daughter of Diane and Rick Morris.
The TCU women's golf team is currently ranked 30th in the nation according to Golfweek. The Horned Frogs have a pair of conference titles and four runner-up finishes in the past six years.
