Tourney Talk
* CollegeRPI.com has predicted TCU as a sixth seed in the 2001 NCAA Tournament. The site has the Frogs heading to the West Regional to face 11th-seeded George Washington. The game would be played on the campus of Kansas State, the projected third seed. In addition, womenscollegehoops.com selected TCU as the team most likely to receive Conference USA's automatic bid (given to the C-USA Tournament champion). The site also predicts that if the Lady Frogs don't win the conference tournament, the team has a 55 percent chance of receiving an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
TCU's New Year's Resolution - Just Win
* TCU completed the month of January with just one loss and own a 14-1 record in January over the last two seasons. TCU was 7-1 this month.
On Pace
* TCU's record stands at 15-4, which ties as the best 19-game start in school history. Last year's NCAA Tournament team was also 15-4 through 18 games and went on to a 25-8 season.
You Want Competition?
* The Frogs are 8-3 against teams that advanced to the postseason in 2001. TCU is 4-2 vs. teams that made the NCAA tourney, with wins over Southwest Missouri State, Rutgers, Arkansas and Louisville and losses to Oklahoma and Oregon. Meanwhile, the Frogs are 3-1 against 2001 WNIT teams, with wins over Santa Clara, Houston (two) and Cincinnati and a loss to BYU.
Mittie's Milestones
* Head coach Jeff Mittie notched the 200th victory of his career against Arkansas on Dec. 29 and reached the 50-victory plateau at TCU on Jan. 1 against Montana State. He needs just one victory to pass Kenneth Davis (56 wins) and become the second all-time winningest coach at TCU. The two are currently tied at 56.
Pining for Playing Time
* TCU's bench has outscored the opposing bench in 16 of 19 games this season. For the year, the Lady Frogs' substitutes lead the opposing team's bench by a 508-302 margin. TCU's reserves score an average of 26.7 points per game, while opponents average just 15.9 points.
Don't Call It A Comeback
* TCU has played in just one game this season in which the team trailing at halftime came back to win (57-50 win vs. Louisville on Jan. 20). The Lady Frogs are now 13-0 when leading at the half, 1-0 when tied at intermission and 1-4 when trailing at the midway point.
You Half to Be Able to Score
* TCU has held five of its opponents to fewer than 20 points in the first half this season (Prairie View-7, Sam Houston State-13, East Carolina-14, SMS-18 and Houston-18). TCU's lowest first-half point total is 21 (on two occasions).
Eighty Is Enough
* Charlotte became the first TCU opponent to score at least 80 points in game this season. In fact, just five Frog opponents have reached the mark in the last 52 games, which dates back to the start of the 2000-01 campaign.
The Magic Number - Part I
* Mittie's TCU teams are 53-6 (.898) when holding opponents under 70 points and 3-20 (.130) when allowing at least 70. TCU is 15-0 this season when holding opponents to fewer than 70 points and 0-4 when yielding 70 or more.
The Magic Number - Part II
* TCU is 10-1 when scoring at least 70 points this season and 5-3 when falling short of the mark. In Coach Mittie's three seasons as head coach, the Frogs are 41-6 (.872) when reaching the 70-point plateau and 15-20 (.429) when failing to do so.
He's Baaaaaack
* Associate head coach Larry Tidwell served a brief stint as an assistant coach at South Florida, prior to returning to his home state to be a part of Jeff Mittie's staff at TCU prior to the 1999-00 season.
TCU Hound Frogs
* TCU has hounded eight teams to 50 points or fewer this season (Prairie View A&M-23, East Carolina-42, SMS-44, Air Force-48, San Diego State-49, Houston-49, Sam Houston State-50 and Louisville-50). In addition, 12 of the Frogs' 19 opponents have failed to reach 60. Heading into the week, TCU ranked seventh nationally in defensive scoring average.
D-M-C You Later
* TCU had a nine-game homestand from Nov. 30 through Jan. 3, then played at Houston on Jan. 6. The Frogs just finished a three-game conference homestand, meaning that 12 of the last 13 games were played in Fort Worth. TCU won 11 of the 12 home games and is currently 12-1 (.923) at home this season and 25-5 (.833) over the last two years.
Hit the Road Jack
* TCU is the middle of a season-long four-game road trip that began with the Charlotte contest on Jan. 25 and ends with a game at UAB on Feb. 3. TCU is 3-3 outside of Fort Worth this season. Last year, the Frogs went 12-4 in road/neutral site games.
