Patrick Sullivan, a former National Coach of the Year runner-up with over two decades of high-level Division 1 coaching experience, was tabbed as the associate head coach for the TCU women's tennis program ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.
During the 2024-25 season, Sullivan helped coach two players to ITA All-American honors, as Jade Otway and Isabel Pascual earned the first doubles distinction for TCU since 2007 with their run to the quarterfinals at the NCAA Individual Championships in November. The pairing also went on to earn All-Big 12 First Team accolades for their play in doubles, while Otway also received a second team singles selection. The Horned Frogs had multiple highlights thorughout the dual season, such as a second-place finish in the College Station Regional during ITA Kickoff Weekend and an upset victory over Big 12 Champion and 13th-ranked Texas Tech.
In his first year as associate head coach, the Frogs secured numerous achievements, most notably posting their most Big 12 wins in a season with seven and the most conference shutouts in a year with five. TCU had five players ranked nationally throughout the year, it's most since 2006, to go along with four All-Big 12 selections at the end of the season.
Prior to his current role at TCU, Sullivan most recently served as the Horned Frogs' volunteer assistant coach during the 2021-22 campaign. A Houston native, Sullivan boasts more than 20 years of coaching experience.
Sullivan’s pedigree includes head coaching experience at the University of Houston, where he was named the Wilson/ITA Texas Region Coach of the Year after directing the Cougars to a 22-6 record, including a 9-1 conference mark and a school-record 11 victories over nationally ranked teams. Sullivan’s Houston team won 18 consecutive matches – also a program record – and reached a school-record ranking and back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances (only the 3rd and 4th in the history of the program). Sullivan, named the American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, also proved to be quite the recruiter, hauling in nationally recognized recruiting classes, including a group that was ranked No. 1 in the country by TennisRecruiting.net.
Before taking the reins at Houston, Sullivan began his head coaching career by taking over a struggling Stephen F. Austin University team that had finished the 2009-10 season 9-11. During his two years at SFA, the Jacks had back-to-back 20-win seasons and reached as high as No. 35 in the nation. Sullivan’s inaugural recruiting class was ranked No. 1 among mid-majors and proceeded to lead a 2012 team that featured four freshmen in the starting lineup to a record-setting 23-5 season. In addition, SFA captured their first-ever Southland Conference regular-season and tournament titles en route to a first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, and Sullivan was named the Southland Conference Coach of the Year.
Sullivan made the jump to the head coaching ranks after successful stops at the University of Arkansas and SMU, having played an instrumental role in turning both programs from unranked to the top 25 in just two seasons while also completing a Juris Doctor (JD) degree. Sullivan bookended his assistant career with two stints for his alma mater, Texas A&M. With the Aggies, he helped coach 6 All-Americans and both men’s and women’s squads ranked in the top-10.
Off the court, Sullivan is devoted to his wife Caroline, their three daughters, Vera, Maya and Diana, and his German Shepherds Luna and Archie.
