Kowa Shines for Frogs at Tom Jones Memorial

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – TCU track and field's Mohammed Kowa shined on the track against some of the nation's top teams over the weekend at the Tom Jones Memorial Invite running a pair of personal best times, including a 1500m event win on Friday night.
Kowa's performance in the 1500m and 800m races both rank No. 2 all-time in the Horned Frogs' record book. In the 1500m, he crossed the finish line first with a time of 3:43.28, the fastest by a TCU performer since 2001. The senior turned around and ran a blistering 1:45.84 in the 800 less than 24 hours later, which ranks eighth in the NCAA this season.
But Kowa wasn't the only Frog to earn an event win on the weekend. Like clockwork, Georgia Scott took home the 1500m title, besting the field by nearly five second and shaving almost six seconds off her career-best time. With a 4:09.85, she is now within a second of the school record held by Pro Frog Gracie Morris and sits at No. 16 in the country.
TCU also saw strong runs in the 3000m steeplechase from Camryn Kirkland and Zach Troutman. Kirkland posted the No. 2 time in program history with a 10:44.1, and Troutman threw down a 9:14.55, the third best mark by a Frog ever in the event for the men.
In the field events, Irene Jepkemboi made her outdoor season debut in the javelin throw, finishing second overall. The Kenya native launched a 52.26m (171-5) throw on her first attempt.
Competing out in California at the Mt. SAC Relays, pole vaulters Ben Kirbo and Michael McCloy recorded strong results. Kirbo managed to clear 5.35m (17-6 ½) in the Elite Invite B section, while McCloy got over 5.00m (16-4 ¾) in the Collegiate A division. Freshman high jumper Ashvin Balaramana managed to finish third with a 2.05m (6-8 ¾) leap Collegiate B section of his event.
