Fifth-ranked Horned Frogs earn 10th straight victory over Bears
FORT WORTH – TCU passed its final test ahead of the ITA Indoor National Championships on Thursday.
Facing off with No. 19 Baylor in a nonconference dual, the fifth-ranked Horned Frogs bulldozed their way to a 4-1 victory at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
TCU (6-1) ran its winning streak vs. the Bears to 10 matches dating back to the 2023 campaign and improved to 46-26 all-time vs. its longstanding rival.
The Horned Frogs dropped just three sets in a dual that lasted barley over two hours.
Duncan Chan was the man of the hour. He and Cosme Rolland De Ravel clinched the doubles point on court two. Chan, the ITA No. 5 ranked singles player, then closed out 17th-ranked Devin Badenhorst and the match on court one by winning 12-of-13 games to polish off a rousing 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 comeback win.
Cooper Woestendick and Oliver Bonding each put two wins on the board. They were victorious in No. 1 doubles and swept courts their singles matches on courts three and four.
The performance illustrated important growth for an underclassmen-laden roster. TCU claimed three of the top four courts in singles vs. a ranked opponent for the first time this season.
TCU is likely to rematch Baylor at Indoor Nationals, which begin on Feb. 13. TCU was assigned to Waco for rounds one and two. Baylor automatically qualified by virtue of serving as one of two tournament hosts and is likely to receive the No. 6 or No. 7 seed in the Horned Frogs' region. The draw is not without precedent should it materialize. TCU drew the Bears in round one at Indoor Nationals in 2023 and 2025, winning both times.
Doubles Rundown
TCU never trailed on any court on its way to earning its seventh doubles point in as many tries this season.
Bonding and Woestendick bounced Badenhorst and Luc Koenig 6-4 on court one. TCU's 22nd-ranked tandem of Chan and Rolland De Ravel then locked up the 1-0 lead with an identical set victory over Alexandru Chirita and Zsombor Velcz in the second position.
Both Horned Frog pairs broke early and assumed 2-1 leads. Chan and Rolland De Ravel did not surrender a service game, nor did Filip Apltauer and Albert Pedrico on court three, who left their match vs. Blake Anderson and Connor Van Schalkwyk unfinished leading 5-4.
Bonding and Woestendick earned a second, decisive break point with their match level at four games all. The duo won its fourth straight match, all of which have come on the top court, as partners.
Chan and Rolland De Ravel remain undefeated as a pair at 10-0 overall and 5-0 in duals.
TCU still has yet to lose on court two or three this season.
The Horned Frogs won their 21st doubles point in their last 24 outings on the indoor courts dating back to the 2022-23 campaign. TCU has now claimed 19 consecutive doubles points on the indoor purple courts.
