Edmonds has 14 points, 13 rebounds
FORT WORTH – TCU used a 12-2 scoring run to close out the game and defeat West Virginia, 60-54, Saturday at Schollmaier Arena.
The Horned Frogs (17-10, 7-7) trailed 52-48 with 5:42 remaining before allowing just two points the rest of the way. TCU, which shot 28.6 percent in the second half, made five of its last eight field goal attempts and its last six attempts from the free throw line.
Xavier Edmonds recorded his eighth double-double in his last nine games with 14 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. David Punch scored 10 of his 12 points in the final 10 minutes of the game.
Brock Harding scored 11 points, including the game-tying layup, which made it 52-52 with 3:19 to play. He also sank two free throws to push TCU's lead to 58-54 with 17.5 seconds remaining. The junior guard led the Frogs with six assists.
The game got off to a slow with multiple turnovers by both teams, including six by TCU within the first five minutes. The Frogs settled down and finished with 12 for the game, but forced 16 from the Mountaineers (16-11, 7-7).
Liutauras Lelevicius was the spark that gave TCU a 30-25 lead at halftime. The junior guard made 3-of-4 from 3-point range and scored all of his 14 points in the first half.
Despite the season-low scoring output, TCU outrebounded WVU, 39-28, including 19 offensive rebounds, which tied a season high.
The Horned Frogs, who have won three of four games, continue their homestand on Tuesday at 8 p.m. when they face Arizona State. The game will air on CBSSN.
