Frogs Set To Face Alaska Fairbanks and UT Martin
FORT WORTH – The No. 4-ranked TCU women's rifle team hits the road for a pair of matches in Fairbanks, Alaska where it will take on the host Nanooks and UT Martin Saturday and Sunday. All 12 shooters on the TCU squad will make the journey to Alaska.
The Horned Frogs are coming off a pair of solid scores last weekend in their return to action from a two month hiatus. The Frogs fired marks of 4,738 and 4,732 in matches against Ohio State at the TCU Rifle Range.
TCU sits third in the NCAA Selection rankings, boasting a three score average of 4,744.33. The Frogs rank second nationally in smallbore average (2,353.40) and third nationally in air rifle average (2,382.90) and aggregate average (4,736.30).
The Frogs' lineup features seven shooters ranked in the top 40 nationally in air rifle average. Katie Zaun paces the squad and ranks eighth nationally with a 597.11 average. Mackenzie Kring ranks 18th nationally with a 595.80 average. Mikole Hogan (594.80), Christina Hillinger (594.70), Alexandra Rosenlew (594.67), Rylie Passmore (594.00) and Ziva Swick (594.00) round out the top shooters for the Frogs.
TCU boasts a solid smallbore squad with six shooters in the top 40 nationally. Zaun matched her career high with a 596 against Ohio State. She ranks fifth nationally with a 591.67 season average. Passmore matched her career-high with a 592 last weekend and has fired a 590 or better in three straight matches. Her 587.40 season average ranks 17th nationally. Rosenlew sits in the top 20 with a season average of 587.00.
Zaun's season aggregate aver of 1,188.78 paces the team and ranks fifth nationally. Three other Frogs rank in the top 25 in Rosenlew (1,181.67), Passmore (1,181.40) and Hogan (1,180.50).
Alaska Fairbanks enters the weekend seventh in the NCAA Selection rankings with a three-score match average of 4,732.67. On the season, the Nanooks are averaging a 2,341 in smallbore, a 2,381.60 in air rifle for an aggregate average of 4,732. Lucie Kissenberger is the top smallbore shooter with a season average of 587.30, while Teagan Perkowski paces the squad with a 595.80 in air rifle.
UT Martin has a season average of 2,290.00 in smallbore and a 2,334.57 in air rifle for a season aggregate average of 4,624.57. Sophia Ashford leads the Skyhawks in both disciplines (575.14 in smallbore and 587.00 in air rifle).
