Dussault wins Milwaukee Tennis Classic while Chan qualifies for NCAA Championships
FORT WORTH – In its busiest weekend of the fall, TCU affirmed that it has reloaded for the 2025-26 campaign.
Duncan Chan qualified for the NCAA Singles Championships on Sunday on the final day of play at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. Meanwhile, Maximus Dussault won the Milwaukee Tennis Classic singles championship. The freshman also finished as doubles vice champion.
Chan and Dussault headlined TCU's efforts at the pair of overlapping events. Eight Horned Frogs teamed up for 30 individual victories, 24 of which came in singles play. TCU tallied 15 wins at each tournament.
Chan finished as the singles main draw consolation finalist and earned a feed-in berth to the NCAA Championships, which run from Nov. 18-23 in Orlando, Fla. The junior was one of 10 players to qualify.
From Markham, Ontario, Chan was responsible for nearly one-third of TCU's singles triumphs. He won seven matches in as many days, including five in main draw action.
Chan, tabbed 106th in the preseason ITA singles rankings, defeated No. 20 Nicolas Kotzen (Columbia) and No. 43 Amar Tahirovic (Bucknell) by an identical 6-3, 6-4 margin in the opening rounds. He fell one set short to top-seeded and third-ranked DK Suresh of Wake Forest, 6-4, 4-6, 2-6, in Friday's round of 16.
The loss – his lone defeat of the fall season – meant Chan needed to win three consolation matches to earn his place in the 64-man NCAA Singles Championships bracket. He bounced Ohio State Buckeyes Alex Okonkwo and Jack Anthrop in straight sets on Saturday. The victories over the pair of top-70 players set up a winner-take-all bout vs. No. 36 Emon van Loben Sels of UCLA on Sunday. Chan used an early break in sets one and three to secure a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 win.
Sunday's victory capped a remarkable September for Chan. He finished with a 16-1 combined overall record and defeated an NCAA-leading 10 ITA top-100 players. Chan's takedown of van Loben Sels signified his fifth top-50 win.
Dussault dropped just two sets all weekend en route to claiming the singles crown. He rolled past Indiana's Braeden Gelletich, 6-1, 6-2, in Sunday's final. Dussault ran roughshod over the Big Ten. He also picked up victories over players from Northwestern, Purdue and Oregon.
The lefty is the first TCU player to win the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, now in its 49th year of existence.
He partnered with Wisconsin's Collin Beduhn in doubles. They notched consecutive 6-2 wins over pairs from Marquette and Oregon in the quarterfinals and semifinals.
Dussault's 9-1 overall record was the best of any TCU player in action.
Filip Apltauer and Kaj Quirijns joined Dussault in the doubles semifinals. They improved their shared record to 5-1.
Apltauer also advanced to the singles semifinal, finishing with five combined wins. His run to the final four was highlighted by a 6-3, 6-1 sweep of top-seeded Henrik Villanger of Purdue in Saturday's quarterfinals.
The ITA All-American Championships also saw TCU's No. 4 ranked tandem of Albert Pedrico and Cosme Rolland De Ravel make their debut as partners. The Horned Frog duo blanked No. 25 Connor Smille and Jakub Vrba (Arkansas), 7-6 (11), 6-3, before coming up short in a third set tiebreaker to Okonkwo and Alex Bernard in the round of 32.
TCU will have its second of three chances to qualify players for the NCAA Championships at the ITA Texas Regional on Oct. 17-21 in College Station.
