Frogs hold BYU to just one hit
FORT WORTH – Tommy LaPour threw seven no-hit innings in guiding TCU to an 8-0 win over BYU Thursday night, completing the doubleheader sweep. The victory runs the Horned Frogs' winning streak to five games. Sawyer Strosnider, Chase Brunson and Colton Griffin homered in the game.
The Rundown
Tommy LaPour (4-2) was outstanding in tossing a career-high seven innings. He issued four walks and hit a batter, but did not surrender a hit in his outing. The right hander registered six strikeouts.
Gianluca Shinn struck out three straight after allowing a lead-off infield single in the eighth. Nate Stern fanned two after issuing a lead-off walk in the ninth. The Cougars did not advance a runner beyond second base.
Offensively, the Frogs put up six runs over the first two innings and never looked back. Sawyer Strosnider opened the scoring with a solo home run in the first. Noah Franco reached on a two-out single ahead of Chase Brunson's home run to give the Frogs a 3-0 lead after an inning of play.
In his return to action following an injury, Colton Griffin delivered a three-run blast with one out in the second to make it a 6-0 ballgame.
TCU picked up its final two runs of the game in the fifth. Brunson led off the inning with a base hit and scored on a one-out double off the bat of Anthony Silva. Karson Bowen two-out single drove in Silva to account for the final score.
