Horned Frogs to race in prestigious track & field meet
PHILADELPHIA – TCU track and field travels to the east coast to compete at the historic Penn Relays April 24-26 at Franklin Field.
The Horned Frogs will have the opportunity to race in one of the most prestigious track & field events in the world, the 129th Running of the Penn Relays, presented by Toyota. TCU has won 31 event titles in its history attending the meet, most recently the men's sprint medley relay last season and back-to-back women's 100m dash wins in 2023 and 2024 by Iyana Gray.
Over halfway through the outdoor season, the TCU women are ranked No. 15 in the USTFCCCA National Track & Field Rating Index. Additionally, they boast six top 25 event squads, including the No. 2 ranked 100m dash, No. 4 javelin and No. 6 400m hurdles groups.
Individually, TCU's women have eight top 25 marks nationally so far this outdoor season. Freshman sprinter Indya Mayberry owns the national lead in the 100m dash (10.91) and was a key member of the Frogs' 4x100m relay (42.87) that ranks No. 3 in the NCAA this year. Sophomore javelin thrower Irene Jepkemboi broke her own school record two weekends ago with the fifth best throw in the nation. Hurdler Amelliah Birdow also owns a top 10 time in the country in the 400m hurdles, ranking No. 9 (56.17), and the TCU's 4x400m relay ranks No. 20 (3:30.87).
The men own five top 25 marks in the NCAA, led by freshman javelin thrower Preston Kuznof. At the TCU Alumni Invitational, Kuznof made the most of his first collegiate throw, breaking the TCU school record and winning the event. He ranks ninth in the nation with a mark of 75.10m.
Last weekend, TCU earned six total event wins and recorded 34 top 10 finishes at the Michael Johnson Invitational. Benjamin Kirbo won the men's pole vault, clearing 5.47m, a new personal best and TCU school record. Middle distance runners Mohammed Kowa and Anastacia Gonzales helped the Frogs sweep the 1500m on the men's and women's side. Kowa turned in a season-best 3:49.83, and Gonzales finished with a personal best 4:27.08, the ninth best time in school history.
On Saturday, Stone Burke won the men's 3000m steeplechase and, TCU once again swept the men's and women's 800m events. Georgia Scott took home the women's title with a personal best time of 2:07.92, which ranks sixth in program history, and Kowa grabbed his second win of the weekend.
