KANSAS CITY, Mo. – TCU is the indisputable best in the Big 12 Conference.
Hailey Van Lith scored 20 points as the eighth-ranked Horned Frogs defeated No. 17 Baylor, 64-59, to win the Big 12 Championship on Sunday inside the T-Mobile Center.
TCU earned a season sweep of the conference regular season and tournament titles, becoming the league's first team unclad in green and gold to claim both in nearly two decades.
Sunday's victory over Baylor, winners of dozen Big 12 tournament titles, was TCU's first conference tournament championship in 20 years. The Horned Frogs last cut down the nets in tournament play when the program triumphed in the 2005 Conference USA Basketball Championship.
TCU entered the 2024-25 campaign enduring a 37-game losing streak to the national power Bears. In a span of six weeks, TCU became the first team in 18 years to defeat Baylor three times in a season. The Frogs outlasted the Bears in a 51-48 thriller on March 2 in Waco to win the undisputed regular season championship.
The result potentially vaulted the Horned Frogs (31-3, 16-2 Big 12) to the 2-seed line in the NCAA Tournament. TCU is all-but-assured of a host site of the opening rounds of the Big Dance from March 21-24.
Van Lith was tabbed tournament MVP following the final horn. She averaged 21 points, 4.5 assists and three rebounds per game across TCU's victories over Colorado, No. 16 West Virginia and Baylor.
Sedona Prince powered home a 14-rebound, 12-point double-double and joined fellow Wooden Award and Naismith Trophy finalist Van Lith on the all-tournament team.
With Prince patrolling the paint, TCU had the Bears doubled up on the boards, 32-16, early in the fourth quarter and finished with a 34-25 edge on the glass vs. the Big 12's top rebounding team.
TCU's prowess inside loomed large in the early going. The Horned Frogs gave the ball away 15 times before the intermission yet found themselves up 30-19 entering the locker room. TCU outrebounded the Bears 21-9 over the first 20 minutes and limited Baylor to 26 percent shooting (7-27).
More importantly, Prince limited Aaronette Vonleh to just four points, including none in the second quarter. Vonleh, also an All-Big 12 center, scored 37 in the Bears' 84-74 overtime win over No. 21 Oklahoma State in Saturday's semifinals.
Trailing 9-8, TCU closed the first quarter on a 7-2 run over the final 3:14.
Madison Conner netted eight of her 11 points in the second quarter, twice connecting from distance. Donovyn Hunter proved equally invaluable, as she matched Conner's first half points tally.
Hunter's hot hand alleviated pressure on Van Lith, but it was the Big 12 Player of the Year's show in the third. Van Lith hung a dozen against a Bears' defense frequently affording her one-on-one opportunities in transition.
TCU took a 51-43 advantage into the final frame. But as was the case in the teams' previous pair of encounters, Baylor had a late run in store. The Bears tied the ballgame up at 57-57 with 3:43 remaining. TCU went scoreless for nearly four minutes.
Prince snapped the drought and permanently gave TCU the lead on the Frogs' next offensive trip via a low block layup. Van Lith delivered what proved to be a dagger after TCU strung together consecutive stops, transforming an isolation drive left into two points and a 61-57 lead with 48 seconds to go.
Agnes Emma-Nnopu iced the game with two free throws and the Horned Frogs ahead 62-59 following a failed Baylor 3-point attempt.
TCU finished 21-23 at the foul line. The 21 free throws were the Horned Frogs' most in a game all season. TCU also set a program Big 12 championship record for free throw percentage (.913).
Hunter finished with 11 points to give the Frogs' four double-digit scorers.
TCU held Baylor to a season-low two 3-pointers for the second straight head-to-head.
Prince tallied a game-high four steals.
