
Track Concludes Strong Day at Texas Relays

Birdow breaks 400m hurdles record
AUSTIN – Racing for the second straight day at the 97th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, TCU track and field saw success all around from its sprinters, throwers hurdlers and relays.
The Horned Frogs started off the day with the top 4x100m relay time, pacing the field with a 43.69. The relay squad of Indya Mayberry, Iyana Gray, London Tucker and Teanna Harlin bested their mark from a week ago which ranks tied for fifth in school history and second in the NCAA this season.
Action continued with the 100m hurdles where Amari Kiluvila snagged the last spot in the final with a 13.37 run in the prelims. Later in the evening her teammates Amelliah Birdow and Tia Williams finished second and sixth, respectively in the 400m hurdles. Further, Birdow's mark broke her own school record and marked the second fasted time in the nation this season. Jayden Douglas also ran for the men in the 400m hurdles final, placing fourth.
In the sprints, Mayberry and Gray punched their tickets to the 100m dash final. Mayberry cruised her way to an 11.22 to lock up the top spot, and Gray finished seventh. The two Frogs will race in Saturday's final. TCU's men's 4x400m relay also earned a spot in the final, running a 3:08.88.
In the field events the javelin throwers showed why they are one of the nation's top position groups. Three athletes on the women's side finished inside the top five. Irene Jepkemboi (51.90m), Maria Bienvenu (50.60m) and Sydney Juszczyk (49.61m) placed third, fourth and fifth, respectively. For the men, Preston Kuznof finished fourth in his Texas Relays debut with a throw of 72.18m.
Smanatha Callaway also posted a massive PR in the women's shot put, throwing 15.07m to place second in the B section and sixth in school history.
The Frogs had relay success to close out the night, with a pair of top five finishes in the men's and women's sprint medley relay. TCU's women tacked on a second place finish in the distance medley relay while the men placed sixth.
