
TCU Holds On; Tops UTRGV, 4-3

FORT WORTH – Trever Baumler had a career day on the mound in helping lead TCU to a 4-3 win over UTRGV Tuesday night at Lupton Stadium. Baumler tossed a career-high seven innings and struck out a career-high six.
The Rundown
Trever Baumler (2-2) turned in his first career quality start, going seven strong innings. He allowed just one unearned run on two hits, walked two and struck out six. He retired 16 of the final 19 batters he faced in the contest.
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the second, the Horned Frogs took advantage of a trio of walks to open the the bottom of the inning. Jack Bell line a ball into center field that eluded the diving outfielder. When all was said, Bell was standing on third and the Frogs had a 3-1lead. Karson Bowen followed with an RBI-single to make it a 4-1 game.
A 40-minute lightning delay halted the proceedings with one out in the second. Baumler continued to be a dominating force on the mound. TCU had a base runner in four of its final five offensive innings but couldn't add to its lead.
UTRGV cut the deficit to one, 4-3, with a pair of runs in the ninth. A one-out error gave the Vaqueros life, but Gianluca Shinn came out to get a strikeout to end the game with the tying run standing on second.
