Pole vaulters and DMR scores Day One points; 15 Horned Frogs advance to finals
LUBBOCK, Texas – TCU track and field got off to a strong start at the 2025 Big 12 Indoor Championships at the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center, earning points in the men's pole vault and women's DMR as well as 15 athletes advancing to event finals.
The Horned Frog pole vault duo of Reese Pokluda and Benjamin Kirbo jumped their way to a combined nine points for the men's team, earning fourth and fifth place overall at the conference championship meet. TCU's distance medley relay squad of Georgia Scott, Tia Williams, Sasha Crawford and Tabitha Ngao also grabbed a pair of points, putting the women on the board.
In total, 15 athletes advanced out of Friday's preliminary round of their respective events and will compete for a medal and a spot on the podium on Saturday. More importantly, they look to add valuable points to TCU's team totals.
The morning started off with a school record by Elise Dobson school in the pentathlon. Dobson scored 3776 points to break her own mark set earlier this month. Her teammate Yannik Knobloch also competed in the multi's and sits in second in the men's heptathlon with three events remaining.
On the track, senior Graydon Morris got the Frogs going in the mile. He snagged the final spot in the field with a 4:08.08, edging out the next closest competitor by five-hundredths of a second.
Amari Kiluvia kept the momentum going, finishing second in her heat and securing her spot in the women's 60m hurdles in 8.31.
In the women's 60m sprint, TCU's freshmen shined. Indya Mayberry and London Tucker each punched their tickets to the final. Mayberry cruised to a 7.18 to win her heat and automatically qualified with the second-fastest time of the day. Tucker recorded a personal best 7.28, tied for the fourth fastest time in school history, in heat four to take the eighth and final spot in the final.
A combined four Frogs moved on to the finals of the 600 yard dash. Amelliah Birdow threw down the leading time of 1:19.60 for the women, while Giovouni Henry, Destin Drummond and Dominic Byles qualified for the men.
Distance runners Anastacia Gonzales, Ngoa and Mohammed Kowa all punched their tickets to the 1000m finals. Samarra Monrroy and Lloyd Frilot also earned their spot in the 400m and 800m finals, respectively. Monnroy posted the second-fastest indoor time in TCU history, less than a tenth off the record. Frilot, the 800m record holder, placed seventh with a 1:49.30 and has plenty left in the tank as he looks for a big drop in the final.
Mayberry qualified for the final in the 200m along with her teammate and the defending indoor champ Iyana Gray. The rookie and the veteran will represent TCU on Saturday along with Kashie Crockett on the men's side. He finished third in the prelims with a personal best 20.55, the second-fastest time in school history.
Through the first day of competition, the men's team sits in eighth place and the women's team is 14th.
The Frogs are back in action for day two on Saturday, March 1. Competition begins at 10 a.m. CT when the heptathlon resumes.
