Robinson has career game versus Jackson State
FORT WORTH – TCU recorded the most points and most assists the program has seen in 25 seasons in a 115-64 win over Jackson State Monday in Schollmaier Arena.
Not since scoring 120 points on Grambling in 2001 have the Horned Frogs (10-3) seen that kind of scoring output. David Punch led six Frogs in double figures with 20 points, but it was fellow sophomore Micah Robinson that put forth the best effort of his career with 19 points and nine assists.
Brock Harding set the ball-distribution tone with 10 of the team's 37 assists, which tied for the sixth-most all time. Harding reached double-figures in assists with no turnovers, something that last happened at TCU in 2017 by Kenrich Williams.
Several runs made up this lopsided affair. TCU jumped out to a 10-0 lead and then quickly pushed the lead to 20 points, 38-18, with 6:22 to play in the half. The period ended on a 13-2 run, and it was the team's only freshman, Kayden Edwards, who scored TCU's last nine points in the form of three 3-pointers, including one at the halftime buzzer. He finished with a season-best 14 points. The Frogs led 55-32 after shooting 55.6 percent from the field.
TCU started the second half making 11 of its first 12 shots from the field and ended the second half making seven of its last eight. The Frogs shot 75.8 percent from the field in the second half, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range. The Tigers (1-12) were held to 36.7 percent shooting in the second half.
Other Frogs scoring in double figures were Xavier Edmonds with 16, Liutauras Lelevicus with 15 and Jace Posey with 12.
Winners of eight of its last nine games, TCU will begin Big 12 Conference play on Saturday when it hosts Baylor at 1 p.m. The game will air on TNT.
