Horned Frogs reach bowl eligibility
TCU (6-2, 3-2 Big 12) posted five fourth down stops to help keep the Mountaineers (2-6, 0-5 Big 12) at arm's length. The Horned Frogs used excellent field position to open up a lead, with their first three drives starting in West Virginia territory.
Kaleb Elarms-Orr was a star once again, leading the Frogs in tackles and eclipsing 15 for the second consecutive game – becoming the first TCU player to do this since at least 1995.
Eric McAlister eclipsed 100 yards for the third time this year to lead the Frogs' offense. Trent Battle also turned in a career-high 89 rushing yards on 19 attempts.
The TCU defense was able to pick up a couple of pivotal fourth down stops as the Frogs jumped out early to a 10-0 lead. The Mountaineers would finally find an offensive rhythm early in the second quarter, taking advantage of good field position to get back in striking distance.
West Virginia's touchdown lit a fire under the Horned Frog offense, as it went on its longest drive of the season to put the lead back up to two scores.
With both teams' defenses exchanging blows, it felt like the WVU offense was slowly gaining momentum late in the third quarter. The Mountaineers were unable to take advantage, with multiple offensive threats sputtering out.
After stopping the home team offense on fourth down early in the fourth, the TCU offense embarked on drive that ate up nearly seven minutes of game time to gain a 13-point lead.
West Virginia would find the end zone quickly and despite a couple of anxiety-inducing moments on the final possession, the Frogs would be able to run the clock out a survive a trip to The Mountain State.
