
TCU Brings in Handful of Big 12 Weekly Honors

Conference accolades roll in for Horned Frogs after win over Incarnate Word
FORT WORTH – A total of five individuals on the TCU swimming and diving team earned Big 12 weekly awards after the first week of competition, the conference announced Thursday.

This past Saturday against Incarnate Word, the men's side secured a 246.5-65.5 victory, while the women won 237-70. TCU won all but two events out of 34 total against the Cardinals.
David Ekdahl secured his ninth overall conference honor, Filip Suchanski gathered his second weekly accolade and Nina Vadovicova earned the third Big 12 weekly award. Emma Larcada Herrera and Nicole Christensen each collected the first weekly honors of their respective careers.
Suchanski earned three victories in one second-place result against Incarnate Word. The sophomore posted two first-place finishes in the 600 medley relay (5:13.85) and 800 free relay (6:43.81), while also grabbing an individual triumph in the 100 back, touching the wall in 47.83. The Niedrzwica Duza, Poland, native also placed second with a time of 22.67 in the 70 back to round out his weekend of competition.
Ekdahl tallied a sweep in diving, earning victories on both 1-meter and 3-meter. His score of 357.70 on 1-meter would have been good for sixth in school history had Ekdahl not already held the school record for the event. The Malmö, Sweden, native posted a win on 3-meter after earning 338.30 points.
Vadovicova totaled three victories in her only three events and scored 18 points for the Horned Frogs in the first action of her junior season. Vadovicova touched the wall in 28.79 to win the 50 breast and posted a time of 1:01.97 to secure the victory in the 100 breast. The junior swam a 1:37.27 breast leg in the 600 medley relay to help TCU finish first with a time of 5:59.30.
Larcada Herrera posted a first-place finish on 1-meter to open the season, scoring a 261.35. The junior also secured second on 3-meter, posting a total of 264.20, a score that was 0.4 points off the winning tally.
Christensen earned three victories and one second-place finish in her first collegiate swimming appearance. The Lake Forest, California, native touched the wall in 58.97 to earn a win in the 100 IM while also earning a win in the 200 IM with a time of 2:05.98 to secure the event sweep. Christensen was the anchor leg in the winning quartet of the 800 free relay, clocking a 1:55.69 to help the Frogs to a time of 7:37.70 and a first-place result. In the 600 medley relay, the freshman's second leg of 1:44.54 helped TCU finish second.
The Frogs will be back in action on Oct. 10-11, when the women's team heads to Houston for a weekend of competition against Rice, Houston and Villanova.
