Horned Frogs fall to 4-2 on the season
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Offensive miscues and turnovers led to TCU's fourth consecutive loss in Kansas State's Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
The Horned Frogs (4-2) had a flurry of dropped passes and penalties, along with allowing two Kansas State (3-4) defensive touchdowns, in the loss.
TCU had a -3-turnover differential in the game, and is now 6-11 when losing the turnover battle under Sonny Dykes.
Freshman wideout Ed Small was a positive for TCU, recording his first 100-yard receiving game of his career. Eric McAlister also eclipsed 100 yards receiving in the game.
The first quarter was a stalemate, with both defenses exchanging blows and producing key stops to keep the offenses off the board. TCU's offense had the best opportunity to put points on the board, but the Frogs failed to convert a 4th-and-4 at the Wildcats' 20-yard line.
Searching to open up the game, Hoover led his team on a methodical 12 play, 93-yard drive down the field to give the Frogs a 7-0 lead. The score was made possible by a phenomenal effort by freshman Ed Small to gain 27 yards on a 3rd-and-11 to get TCU down to the one-yard line.
After being forced to short gains by the TCU defense through almost the entire first half, Kansas State's offense completed 31- and 32-yard passes over the course of three plays to even the score.
The first game changing play came on TCU's ensuing possession, with a dropped pass from Hoover being ruled a backwards lateral that was returned by Kansas State for a touchdown towards the end of the second quarter.
Both teams exchanged punts to open the second half, but Kansas State's defense flipped the game once again, intercepting Hoover and returning it to the end zone for the Wildcats' second defensive touchdown of the day.
TCU's offense continued to look out of sorts on the ensuing possession, and Kansas State proceeded to go on a five-minute drive to take a three-score lead late in the third quarter and put the game essentially out of reach.
