Former TCU All-Americans begin play in Melbourne on Sunday
FORT WORTH – Cameron Norrie and Jake Fearnley are headed to the Asia Pacific to participate in two of tennis' premier international events.
The former TCU All-Americans will first compete in the Australian Open main singles draw, beginning Sunday at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
They were also two of four qualifiers for the 2025 Great Britian Davis Cup squad.
Norrie and Fearnley are the second and third-highest rated British players in the Pepperstone ATP rankings ahead of the pair of events. Norrie heads down under ranked 49th. Fearnley ascended to a career-high ATP ranking of No. 86 on Monday following a semifinal run at the ATP Challenger Canberra.
Both players will engage in a pair of blockbuster first round matchups in Melbourne. Fearnley is set to welcome Nick Kyrgios back to the sport after more than two years away due to injuries. Norrie draws world No. 35 Matteo Berrettini.
Norrie is making his seventh consecutive Australian Open main draw appearance. He achieved his best career finish at the tournament in 2024, advancing to the fourth round. Norrie earned a memorable third round victory over No. 11 seed Casper Rudd before falling in a five-set thriller to current world No. 2 Alexander Zverev. He holds a 7-6 main draw record in the event. Norrie has advanced to at least the third round in three of the last four years.
This will be Norrie's 29th career Grand Slam. Norrie, who grew up in Auckland, New Zealand, is 34-27 all-time in Slams.
For Fearnley, the Australian Open marks his second career Grand Slam. He earned his first Slam victory at The Championships, Wimbledon 2024, and took a set off 24-time major champion Novak Djokovic on Centre Court in the second round.
Fearnley's rise has been nothing short of historic. He and Ben Shelton are the only the only players in the sport's history to crack the top 100 of the ATP singles rankings less than a year after concluding their college playing careers. Fearnley won four ATP Challenger Tour titles between June-September. He is one of only two Brits to win four Challenger level championships in a year, the other being British No. 1 Jack Draper in 2022. Fearnley's maiden title in at the Rothesay Open Nottingham on June 16 occurred exactly four weeks after he led TCU to its first NCAA Championship.
Team Great Britain is set to battle Japan in a first round qualifier on Jan. 31-Feb. 1 to begin the Davis Cup. The team competition will be contested as a best of five rubber tie away. Should the Brits win, they will face either Germany or Israel in the second round in September for a spot in the finals.
Norrie has been a mainstay in team competition for Great Britain. He held the British No. 1 spot from October 2021 to June 2024. The Brits' battle vs. Japan is his 13th Davis Cup tie.
Fearnley is receiving his first international call-up.
All Australian Open matches will air on ESPN and ESPN+ across the United States.
