Cook runs for 3 TDs, Hoover ties a TCU record for consecutive completions
FORT WORTH – TCU was sharp on both sides of the ball in a 45-0 win over LIU on Saturday night in the home opener at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
The Horned Frogs (2-0) scored on six of their first seven possessions and held the Sharks to just 127 yards, the fewest allowed by TCU since limiting Grambling State to 80 yards in the 2012 season opener, the first game in the rebuilt Amon G. Carter Stadium. It was also the Horned Frogs' first shutout since 2017, when they blanked Kansas 43-0.
Josh Hoover tied a TCU single-game record, held by Jeff Ballard in 2006 against San Diego State, by completing 14 consecutive passes en route to a 20-of-25 night for 267 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions.
The Horned Frogs' lead grew to 17-0 just 1:23 into the second quarter on a 5-yard scoring pass from Hoover to JoJo Earle. It came one play after Earle had a 15-yard reception from Savion Williams, a former high school quarterback, attempting his first collegiate pass. Williams topped TCU in receiving for the second straight game with five catches for 69 yards.
TCU led 31-0 at the half with Cam Cook scoring two of his three rushing touchdowns on carries of 1 and 12 yards. His final trip to the end zone was a 5-yard run that extended the Horned Frogs' margin to 38-0 with 12:45 left in the third quarter.
