FORT WORTH - The TCU women's soccer team earned a hard-fought victory over Arizona, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium. Caroline Kelly notched the game-winning goal in the 66th minute and the Horned Frogs held on for the win. The Frogs held Arizona to just three shots the entire contest.
The Rundown
In an exciting first half that ended scoreless, TCU had a number of looks at goal but could not convert. In the eighth minute, Lauren Memoly fired off a rocket from the top of the box but it was stopped by the Arizona goalkeeper.
In the 33rd minute, Cam Patton found Abigail Cox on a set piece. She got her right foot on the ball, but again, the Arizona goalkeeper was in position to make the stop.
TCU's best chance in the opening frame came in the 41th minute when Ainsley Moy's shot bounced off the crossbar.
In the second half, TCU controlled the tempo and continued to get more looks but it was not until the 66th minute that the Frogs finally broke through. Cox's shot was blocked inside the box and Kelly was right there for the rebound. Her shot found the back of the net to give the Frogs the 1-0 lead.
Arizona's lone look in the contest came in the 16th minute as Olivia Geller was there to make the stop on a header attempt inside the six.
