Second year in a row TCU Equestrian defeats SMU in home opener
FORT WORTH – The No.1 ranked TCU equestrian team, for the second consecutive year, defeated the defending National Champions, the No. 2 SMU Mustangs.
FENCES
The Horned Frogs started the meet with the fences competition where they fell to the Mustangs 2-3. Ella Bostwick earned the first point for TCU as she set a new career high score of 92 in the event. Bostwick also notched the highest point differential against Hannah Hotch scoring ten points higher than her opponent on Electric with a 92-82. Ashleigh Scully followed earning her point on Java scoring a 92 to tie her career high score.
REINING
The reining team got things started in the western arena where Kaylene Cunningham secured the first point for the Frogs on Smooch with a 70.5. Shea Graham followed by earning her point on Britney with a 70 which also earned her the MOP honors award. Lannie Jo-Lisac closed out the event for the by scoring a 69 on Alfie to earn the Horned Frogs a 3-2 lead.
FLAT
Flat kicked off the second half of the competition. Laurel Smith marked the first point for the Frogs on Mac with an 86. Lilly Goldstein followed earning her point on Fudge with an 83. Ashleigh Scully topped her opponent on Luke with the score of 87.
HORSEMANSHIP
The horsemanship closed out the meet for the Frogs. Elizabeth West made her collegiate debut and got things started with a 71.5 earning her point on George. Jessica McAllister followed by marking a 70.5 on Flash to secure her point.
UP NEXT
The Horned Frogs travel to Auburn, Al. and Athens, Ga where they will take on the No. 5 Tigers and No. 6 Bulldogs. The meets will take place on Sept. 27 and 28.
