FORT WORTH - The TCU women's soccer team throttled BYU, 4-1, at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium on Thursday night. Caroline Kelly scored her first brace as a Horned Frog while Morgan Brown, Cameron Patton and Jordan Whiteaker all tallied their first career points.
The Rundown
The Horned Frogs found themselves in an early hole as BYU scored in the 19th minute on a strike from inside the box. Five minutes later, AJ Hennessey earned the Frogs' first look of the night, but her shot was right to the Cougar goalkeeper.
In the 32nd minute, Hennessey drew a foul inside the box, which gave Seven Castain a chance to even the contest and she did. Castain notched her fifth goal of the season and her third goal against BYU in two games.
Caroline Kelly notched her second game-winner of the year when she found the back of the net in the 43rd minute. Cameron Patton fed an outstanding ball to Kelly, who scored off a header to give the Frogs a 2-1 lead late in the first half.
Just four minutes into the second half, Kelly scored her second goal of the game as she converted TCU's second penalty attempt of the night to extend the Frog lead to 3-1.
Morgan Brown put the game on ice as she connected on her header attempt from a perfectly executed cross from Jordan Whiteaker off the corner in the 56th minute.
The TCU defense limited BYU to just three shots in the game.
Quote of the Game
Head Coach Eric Bell
Thoughts on the Game
"It was a good win against a quality opponent. We challenged the team at the water break to respond. We have to do a better job of getting on the field ready to rock and roll. Glad we learned that lesson in win rather than a loss."
