FORT WORTH – TCU eased its way into the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the ninth straight season, shutting out UC Irvine 4-0 on Friday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The fourth-seeded Horned Frogs (23-4) did not drop a set in its opening round tilt of the Fort Worth Regional. The Horned Frogs took the doubles point from the Big West champion Anteaters (17-7) with wins on the top courts. Jack Pinnington, Jake Fearnley and Lui Maxted polished off the clean scoresheet with singles sweeps on one, two and four, with Fearnley securing the match-clincher.
"The guys got it done," said head coach David Roditi. "I told UC Irvine's coach, Mike Saunders – great coach – you're not the only anteater out here. We like ants as well. I guess the Horned Frogs got most of the ants today. Congrats to UC Irvine on a great season and winning their conference. Now, we get to play Cornell, Saturday at two o'clock. We're going to be watching the rain. Proud of our guys for the way they showed up. Took care of the doubles point and then put up a bunch of first sets. Tomorrow is going to be an absolute war. I want to thank Barstool TCU and all of our students who came out. It was a great atmosphere."
TCU won its ninth consecutive NCAA Tournament first round match – all of which have been at home. The Horned Frogs boosted the program's all-time NCAA Tournament record to 51-33 while improving their home postseason mark to 24-1. The win also spiked Roditi's career NCAA Tournament record to 25-9.
The Horned Frogs are 11-0 in home duals this season and have claimed 18 consecutive contests on the purple courts dating back to the 2023 campaign.
TCU moves on to battle No. 35 Cornell at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the Regional final. The Big Red blanked No. 28 Arkansas 4-0 in the first part of Friday's doubleheader.
The meeting will be the first ever on the hardcourts between TCU and Cornell (19-6).
Doubles Rundown
TCU took the doubles point in short order with its top-six players all healthy for the first time in nearly two months.
The Horned Frogs received a good omen for its prospects of punching a fifth straight ticket to the NCAA National Championships with its lineup submission.
Sebastian Gorzny, the 2022 Wimbledon Junior Doubles champion, returned to the Horned Frogs' lineup for the first time since March 13. The sophomore sat out TCU's last 12 duals due to injury.
He slotted in on court three alongside Jack Pinnington. The recently formed duo of Jake Fearnley and Pedro Vives anchored the top court for the third straight match. Duncan Chan and Lui Maxted, quarterfinalists at November's ITA National Fall Championships, rounded out the Horned Frogs' lineup on two.
All three pairs broke in their first game on receive and twice throughout the doubles point.
Chan and Maxted struck first, easing by UCI's Andy Nguyen and Hiroki Sakagawa, 6-2. The duo did not drop a game on serve en route to their team-leading 14th dual doubles victory.
Fearnley and Vives went on top 4-1 vs. Rahul Dhokia and Noah Zamora via their second break and polished off a 6-1 doubles point clincher shortly thereafter. They have won all three of their starts together on court one.
Both TCU pairs clinched on receive.
Gorzny and Pinnington led the Anteaters' Brandon Park and Matthew Suh 5-3. The match signified their first-ever pairing.
TCU improved to 18-9 overall in doubles and 9-2 on the purple courts.

Singles Rundown
A business-like effort in singles turned into a race to see who could clinch first. All five Frogs who took the court broke twice in the opening frame.
Maxted got off the court first, breezing by Nguyen 6-3, 6-3. The junior, No. 78 in the latest ITA singles rankings, is now a team-leading 18-4 in duals.

He faced Enrique Luque Rico and walloped the Anteaters' top player 6-1 in the opening frame. Pinnington fell behind 2-4 in set two but took five of the final six points, including the clincher on receive, to widen TCU's lead to 3-0.
