Final home match starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday
FORT WORTH – Fresh off defending their PRC title, the No. 2-ranked TCU women's rifle team returns home for the final time this season to host UTEP. Saturday's match is slated to get underway at 9 a.m. at the TCU Rifle Range.
TCU put together one of its best performances of the season a week ago, shooting it's third-highest aggregate score of the year. The group posted a mark of 2,349 in smallbore and matched its season-high with a 2,390 in air rifle.
The Horned Frogs lead the nation in air rifle average (2,383.33) and sit second nationally in smallbore (2,38.91) and aggregate (4,732.25).
Individually, three Frogs fired personal bests in air rifle last weekend. Jeanne Haverhill, Mikole Hogan and Nina Schuett each set career-highs, firing 598s in air rifle.
The TCU lineup boasts four of the top 15 air rifle shooters led by Katie Zaun (3rd, 597.20) and Stephanie Grundsoee (4th, 596.90). Stephanie Allan and Haverhill rank 13th and 14th, respectively.
In smallbore, Grundsoee (2nd, 591.00) and Zaun (3rd, 590.7) lead the way for TCU. Haverhill has fired a 585 or better in six matches this season, while Hogan has reached the 580 plateau in 10-of-12 matches.
UTEP, also a member of the Patriot Rifle Conference, finished sixth in last week's match.
This match will serve as the final tune up for the postseason push that starts on Feb. 17 with the NCAA Qualifier at Air Force.
