TCU fires second-highest score of the season
FORT WORTH – The No. 2-ranked TCU women's rifle team put together one of their best performances of the season, firing a team score of 4,742 in a win over UTEP. It's the second-highest aggregate score of the season. Stephanie Grundsoee led all shooters with a career-high 1,193 aggregate mark.
TCU matched its season-high 2,356 in smallbore before firing its fourth-highest air rifle mark of 2,386.
Individually, the Horned Frogs turned in nine of the top 10 aggregate marks. Behind Grundsoee, Katie Zaun finished second (1,189) followed by Stephanie Allan (1,182), Jeanne Haverhill (1,174) and Anne White (1,174). Mikole Hogan finished sixth (1,173) and Nina Schuet was eighth (1,172). Annie Downum (1,155) and Kaylynn Slaughter (1,152) rounded out the top 10.
In smallbore, TCU fired the top seven marks in the match. Grundsoee led the charge with a career-high of 597. It's tied for the second-highest score in program history. Katie Zaun fired a 591, the sixth time this season she has eclipsed the 590 mark. Stephanie Allan contributed a 587 and Mikole Hogan a 581 to the final score.
Zaun paced the field in air rifle, shooting a 598 in the discipline. Jeanne Haverhill finished second with a 597 followed by Grundsoee's 596. Allan rounded out the counters with a 595.
Anne White (593), Nina Schuett (593) and Hogan (592) also eclipsed the 590 plateau.
UTEP finished the afternoon with a final mark of 4,569 (2,265 smallbore; 2,304 air rifle).
The postseason push begins on Feb. 17 when the Horned Frogs head to Air Force for the NCAA Qualifier. The score will be the final mark used to determine the eight teams that will advance to the NCAA Championships. TCU currently sits second nationally with its three-score average of 4,741.67.
