Grundsoee and Zaun qualify for individual finals
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – In a tightly contested smallbore match at the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships, No. 2 TCU used a strong second relay to win the discipline title, topping Alaska and Air Force by one shot, 2,349-2,348. Stephanie Grundsoee took home second place in the individual final and Katie Zaun finished fourth.
Heading into air rifle, TCU holds a one-shot advantage over Air Force (2,348) and Alaska (2,348). Sitting in fourth is Nebraska (2,335) followed by Ohio State (2,332) and UTEP (2,276).
TCU got off to a good start in the first relay of the day. Zaun led TCU's four shooters in the relay with a 588. Jeanne Haverhill and Stephanie Allan fired identical marks of 585. Anne White turned in a score of 576.
In the second relay, Grundsoee fired a 591 to help the Frogs take home the smallbore title. Mikole Hogan also served as a counter and fired a 581. Not factoring in the team score and narrowly missing a berth in the finals was Nina Schuett, who shot a 587.
Grundsoee's 591 was the second-highest mark in the match. She ultimately finished second in the individual final. Zaun qualified in the fifth position with her mark of 588. She took home fourth place in the final.
The Patriot Rifle Conference Championships conclude Sunday with air rifle. The first relay is slated to begin at 6:45 a.m.
