TCU opens spring season with 54-hole event at Grand Reserve Golf Club
FORT WORTH – TCU is kicking off its spring season in the tropics for the second consecutive year with a visit to the Caribbean Sea for the Purdue Puerto Rico Classic.
The three-day, 54-hole affair runs from Sunday-Tuesday at the esteemed Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
Competing for TCU
The Horned Frogs' lineup includes Lois Lau, Sofia Barroso Sa, Meagan Winans, Kirstin Angosta and Charlotte Cattaneo.
Lau finished under-par in 11-of-12 rounds across four fall tournaments. The senior is 74th in the Spikemark NCAA women's golf individual rankings. Lau ranks second in school history in career birdies (329) and is 29 shy of overtaking Sabrina Iqbal as TCU's all-time leader.
Barroso Sa and Winans competed as TCU's No. 2 and No. 3 players all fall. Both players enjoyed career performances in the final 18 holes of the Horned Frogs' final fall tournament, the Jim West Invitational, on Oct. 23. Barroso Sa shot a seven-under 65 and carded eight birdies on her way to a career-best low-round score. Winans joined Barroso Sa under 70 strokes at 68 (5-under) for her best round in purple and white.
Angosta and Cattaneo are making their 2023-24 season debuts.
